It appears the time for women has arrived! Advertising and marketing experts tell us that the most powerful and influential segment of society today is the “boomer woman” or the “over 40 female”. She influences much of the families buying decisions and in many cases, controls more than 80% of all financial decisions. Yet women are just now being recognized for their wisdom, skill, talent and abilities – attributes they have been bringing to the planet for centuries.
Affiliated Women Intl™ (AWI) envisions enriching women world wide. As an organization, we’ve determined to be a source of enrichment & encouragement. We seek to equip women with the tools they need to recognize their own empowerment, as they use it to benefit self and others across the world. In keeping with our vision and mission, we have launched a major national “initiative to recognize & honor the contributions of women to the global community.”
“Decade of the Woman”™
An Initiative Recognizing & Honoring the Contributions of Women To The Global ‘Village’!
The “Decade of the Woman”™ is an ambitious undertaking by Affiliated Women Intl™ (AWI). It is designed to:
1). Raise awareness of the world’s greatest natural resource – women
2). Showcase the accomplishments of women around the globe
3). Honor women for their contributions to the betterment of the planet – women who are well known for what they do or have done as well as those who quietly accomplish who might otherwise never be recognized.
Each year, beginning in 2011 through 2020, The “Decade of the Woman”™ (DOTW), will hold highly visible recognition events in cities or areas across the US and Canada – anticipating the events may be held across the globe. The “Decade of the Woman” inaugural event is slated for:
OMAHA, NEBRASKA in Spring, 2012
Additional cities on the AWI vision board for Decade events are:
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA ~ TULSA, OKLAHOMA ~ OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA ~ NEW YORK CITY
These ‘premier’ events launch a decade of recognition of women and their accomplishments in nearly sixty (60) areas nationally and world wide, by the close of the year 2020.
Women around the globe will be honored and recognized in the following categories:
1). “SPIRIT OF WOMAN”- The “Annie & Helen Award”, commemorating the courage of Annie Sullivan & Helen Keller. A woman who has shown great courage in the face of insurmountable odds
2). WOMAN OF INFLUENCE – Recognizing the crowning achievements of women in the: Arts ~ Education ~ Community Service ~ Business & Corporate Life ~ Entrepreneurism ~ Entertainment ~ Sports ~ Public Service
3). “UNSUNG HEROINES” – Women who selflessly and consistently give of themselves for the betterment of their communities in ways that improve the lives of others; who are rarely recognized for who they are and what they do.
Women are notorious for a commitment to philanthropic endeavors. We are “big givers” – not just of self, but of time, talent and ‘treasure’. Therefore, the DOTW is designed to benefit non-profilt organizations in each area where we hold events. All proceeds over cost, will be donated to not-for profit entities whose service to women is in the following areas:
1) Direct services to women surviving cancer of any form,
2) Direct services to women who have made the choice to exit a violent or abusive environment, and/or
3) Direct services to women seeking to transition from an impoverished lifestyle, who desire:
-to pursue education leading to employment
-to start their own business or entrepreneurial enterprise
Affiliated Women Intl™ has the vision to “enrich women world wide” and a mission to be a source to encourage, equip and empower women wherever they live. The “Decade of the Woman” provides AWI the opportunity to fulfill that vision and mission in two ways:
1). To enrich, encourage, equip and empower women through significant recognition and honor of their talent, accomplishments and contributions,
2). Extend the awareness of the AWI vision and mission to women who might otherwise not have the opportunity to collectively come together face to face and virtually – for the mutual benefit of all.
AWI and the DOTW are adding women to the National Steering Committee from the following locales: Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Omaha, Nebraska. If interested, please contact: Linda S. Fitzgerald (linda@awomensplace.org). We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you aboard the “Decade of the Woman”™ initiative.
